Captivating Performance of Romeo and Juliet

On Wednesday 4th March, Year 5 put on a fantastic performance of Romeo and Juliet for an enthusiastic audience of parents and the rest of the school.  The performance was the culmination of a collaboarative project with The Guildford Shakespeare Company who visited on three occasions to carry out workshops with the children and help them to bring the story of Romeo and Juliet to life.  With the assistance of the GSC and the Year 5 teachers, the children largely devised the script themselves, telling the story in their own words, with the addition of some Shakespearean language.  Mrs McConnell and Mrs Peare worked hard to create some attractive backdrops as scenery, which helped to transport the audience to the centre of Fair Verona!

It was wonderful to see so many family members in the audience and the children loved sharing their project books with everyone at the end of the afternoon.  These have now gone home with the children and will ensure that they receive a Delight in Shakespeare Arts Award - something that can go forward with them as an example of their learning and participation in the arts.

Well done Year 5!
