5W Mr Wuestner

Welcome to 5W’s class page!

Our focuses in History and Geography for this term are Ancient Greece and South America.  So far, we have been looking at the war between Athens and Sparta and comparing the two ancient cities.  During our stunning start, we created our own Greek mosaics and artwork displayed on paper plates in the style of the Ancient Greek pottery.  We are enjoying learning about Greek myths in English.  Later on this term, we will be learning about the city of Rio in Brazil through a detective story set during the 2014 World Cup - this will be used as a stimulus for writing in different genres.

In Maths, we are focusing on number work primarily for this half term.  Times tables continue to be a big focus in Year 5, as children will be expected to know all facts up to 12 x 12 and use these to apply to more complex calculations.  Please continue to practise times tables at home whenever possible - all children have a login for 'Times Table Rockstars'/‘Prodigy Maths’, which all children are familiar with.  Additional home learning tasks may also be set using MyMaths - please ensure that you have a login for this!

All pupils should now have access to Seesaw - if you have forgotten your code, please ask us to print you a new copy.

In Science this term, we are learning about Living things and their habitats.  We are continuing to use the Phiz Lab for practical lessons.  Only one class will be allowed to visit the Phiz Lab on any given day, which will allow for a deep clean to happen after school.

Remember that all children now have to come to school wearing their PE kit on days that they have PE/Games.  They are to remain in their PE kit all day.  PE/Games are on Tuesday and Wednesday for 5W.

Reading records, at the moment, are to remain in school.  This will be signed by your child(ren) when reading is undertaken during the school day.  Reading books will be sent home, as soon as possible, in line with current guidance.  Thank you to all of you who are continuing to read at home.

Homework is given out on a Monday and should be returned by Friday.  If you have any further questions about homework, please ask!

Currently there can be no whole school assemblies at all (which of course include class assemblies, that we would usually love to invite you to).  All assemblies are classroom based at the moment.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to arrange an appointment to talk to one of us on the phone (until restrictions are lifted).
